About Us

Cherale (Sherry) Townsend Sherwood, Director

A passionate love for children, youth, and music has been a consistent motivationg force throughout Ms. Sherwood’s career as a musician and minister.  She is a musician, teacher, and pastor especially gifted in discovering, developing,  and encouraging artistic gifts in children and youth.  Her heart’s desire is to serve children, most expecially those who do not receive opportunities to have their talents discovered and developed.

Sherry has been a resident of Texas for the past 36 years.  Valedictorian of her high school class, she received a scholarship to attend Centenary College, Shreveport, in 1971 as a music major, studying piano, voice, and organ.  After receiving a call to music ministry, she accepted a scholarship from Southern Methodist University receiving the award for “Most Outstanding” Master of Sacred Music student upon graduation in May, 1980.

Her gifts and passion for ministry match well her gifts and talents in music as her service in schools and churches for the past 36 years has exemplified.   Sherry has served in the Dallas/Ft Worth area as a teacher, organist/choir director, soprano soloist, youth choir director, youth minister, and children’s choir director.  Concurrently, she has taught piano and voice to hundreds of students in the area.  Her experience also includes the implementation at ground-level of a music curriculum into a private school where she taught all grade levels for 7 years.

The birth of Children of Glory School of the Arts is the fulfillment of many years of experience and a desire to continue to teach children that the source of all creativity is our Heavenly Father who made us, that all creative expression should be a reflection of the Glory of God, and that in all teaching and training we should aim for divine excellence based on His Word.  Our creative expression, to delight Him, must flow from a heart that desires to worship Him and give Him all of the Glory!
